Since its founding in 1947, Stainless has been the leading supplier of guyed and self-supporting towers for TV, Radio, Microwave and General Communication industries. Stainless has the versatility of providing towers of any height up to 2,000 feet. Stainless has supplied more than 7,500 towers in over 100 countries. It is estimated that over half the broadcast towers standing in the United States today were fabricated by Stainless.
Founded by Don Doty and Patrick Moore, Doty Moore Tower Services LLC has helped pioneer the construction, installation and maintenance of tall towers for the last 18 years. This experience is a powerful advantage in successful completion of large-scale, complex projects commonly found on broadcast towers.
As a founding member of the National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE), Doty Moore helped establish many of the safety protocols and standards in use today. Doty Moore has employed more tall tower crews in the United States than any other company. Over half the digital TV antenna systems broadcasting today were installed by Doty Moore Crews. Our accomplishments include work on many significant broadcast platforms, such as the Empire State Building, the Mt. Sutro Tower in San Francisco and the Arecibo Radio Telescope near the city of Arecibo in Puerto Rico.

385 ft. guyed tower for WJMJ in Delair, New Jersey
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their first tower. Patrick Stanton a prominent radio broadcaster in Philadelphia, PA contracts STAINLESS, INC. to build this tower for his new radio station WJMJ, located in Delair, New Jersey. This insulated 385 ft. guyed tower with a face width of 42 inches had provisions to support a future top mounted RCA pylon antenna.

STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their first 500 ft. towers for KCBS AM, Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), in San Francisco, California. This array of four insulated 500 ft. guyed towers had a face width of 6 feet.

Stainless's First 1000 ft Tower for General Electric in Reading, PA
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their first 1,000 ft. TV broadcast tower for General Electric in Reading, Pennsylvania. WHUM TV, Channel 61, was advertised as the “Home of the World’s Most Powerful TV Station”. This trussed leg tower had a face width of 12 ft. and was one of only three 1,000 ft. towers in the country at the time.
Stainless Tower remains standing after an atomic blast
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates Type G-15-100 towers for atomic testing in Nevada. The towers were placed at varying distances from the point of detonation. Past president, Walter Guzewicz, was invited to attend one of the tests and took this photograph of a building that was destroyed by the blast but a STAINLESS, INC. tower remained standing.

WTVM TV in Columbus, Georgia
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their 10th tower over 1,000 ft. for WTVM TV in Columbus, Georgia. This 1,260 ft. tall guyed tower had a face width of 10 ft. and was extended to 1,748 ft. in 1962 by STAINLESS, INC. WTVM TV was originally owned by Martin Theatres and is now owned by Raycom Media.

1,750 ft. tall guyed tower in Knoxville, Tennesse
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates the “Worlds Tallest Structure” which was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee. This 1,750 ft. tall guyed tower had a face width of 10 ft. and is still considered the tallest structure in Tennessee today.

2,060 ft. tower for KXJB TV in Fargo, ND
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates a 2,060 ft. tower for KXJB TV in Fargo, North Dakota. The tower has fallen twice and been rebuilt twice by STAINLESS, INC. The first collapse occurred in 1968 when a Marine helicopter severed guy wires. The second collapse occurred in 1997 after the tower accumulated at least four inches of ice and was subjected to wind gusts of 70 mph. Today, this tower is recorded as the second tallest structure in the world at 2,060 ft.
Stainless first candelabra
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their first candelabra for WKBD TV in Detroit, Michigan. The candelabra, with a separation of 30 ft. between top mounted TV antennas, was actually installed on a 1052’ tall tower designed and fabricated by STAINLESS, INC. in 1964. WKBD TV, originally owned by Kaiser Broadcasting, started as an all sports station, predating ESPN by almost 14 years.

STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their 60th tower over 1,000 ft. in height for KDNL TV, the first UHF station in St. Louis, Missouri. This 1,256 ft. tall guyed tower had a face width of 8 ft. and was designed for a future top mounted T-Bar with dual TV antennas.

STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their 100th tower over 1,000 ft. in height for WJWJ TV in Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,318 ft. tall guyed tower has a face width of 7 ft. and is part of the South Carolina Educational Televison Network. In 2000 they were the first to broadcast a digital program in the state of South Carolina.

STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their fifth candelabra TV tower for SJR Communications in Dallas, Texas. The TV antennas mounted on each corner of this 1,529 ft. tall guyed G10 type tower have a separation 30 ft. This tower is also equipped with 8 ft. wide wrap-a-round style platforms to accommodate 41 communications cabinets and a 40 ft. high stairway running from ground level to the lower elevator landing.

1,707 ft. tall guyed tower in Pensacola, Florida
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their 150th tower over 1,000 ft. in height for WPMI TV in Pensacola, Florida. This 1,707 ft. tall guyed tower has a face width of 8 ft. and started serving the Mobile area as Alabama’s first independent station. WPMI TV would also be the first television station owned by Clear Channel Communications in 1988.

18 towers over 1000 ft in one year
STAINLESS, INC. would design and fabricate 18 towers over 1000 ft. this year, including their 200th tower over 1,000 ft. in height for WDKY TV (1099 ft.) in Lexington, Kentucky. In fact, 7 of the 18 towers built this year were over 1500 ft. They included KRRT TV (1553 ft.) in San Antonio, Texas; WTAT TV (1667 ft.) in Charleston, South Carolina; WKFT TV (1749 ft.) in Fayetteville, North Carolina; KMSS TV (1781 ft.) in Shreveport, Louisiana; WKRG TV (1879 ft.) in Mobile, Alabama; KMJD TV (1910 ft.) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and KGOL FM (2000 ft.) in Lake Jackson, Texas.

Square tower over 1,000 ft for The Sultan Center in Mutlaa, Kuwait
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their first square tower over 1,000 ft. in height for The Sultan Center in Mutlaa, Kuwait. This 1,116 ft. tall guyed tower has a face width of 8 ft. tapering to a face width of 7 ft. to accommodate a side mounted VHF panel antenna and a side mounted FM panel antenna. The tower is also equipped with an elevator and a 40 ft. high stairway to the lower elevator landing.

STAINLESS, INC. would again design and fabricate a tower over 1,000 ft. in height to be shipped overseas. This 1044 ft. guyed tower with a face width of 12 ft. was built for S. H. Behbehani in Failaka, Kuwait. STAINLESS, INC. would also design and fabricate a 5’-6 square structure, 135 ft. in height, to accommodate a 10 bay VHF antenna at the tower top. The tower is equipped with an elevator and a 40 ft. high stairway to the lower elevator landing.

STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their first tower over 1,500 ft. in height to be shipped overseas. This 1547 ft. guyed tower with a face width of 10 ft. was built for STESA in Al Qurayat, Saudi Arabia. STAINLESS, INC. would also design and fabricate a 2’-0 square spline structure, 70 ft. in height, to accommodate a 24 panel VHF antenna at the tower top. The tower is equipped with an elevator and a 40 ft. high stairway to the lower elevator landing.
2,000 ft. tall guyed tower in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
STAINLESS, INC. designs and fabricates their 10th tower 2,000 ft. or greater in height for WCFT TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This 2000 ft. guyed tower has a face width of 10 ft. and is also equipped with an elevator. Today, WCFT TV is part of the huge “Birmingham” TV market that stretches from the Georgia line to almost Mississippi.

This 2,000 ft. tall guyed tower has a face width of 10 ft. and is equipped with an elevator and 40 ft. high stairway to the lower elevator landing.

1851 ft. tower in Mobile, Alabama
SpectraSite Broadcast Group would design and fabricate 7 towers over 1000 ft. this year, including 2 over 1800 ft. They include an 1851 ft. tower in Mobile, Alabama and a 1999 ft. tower in Tallahassee, Florida. The 1851 ft. tower in Mobile, Alabama was also the first candelabra TV tower with an antenna separation of 75 ft. Both towers are equipped with an elevator and a 40 ft. high stairway to the lower elevator landing.
SpectraSite Broadcast Group, SpectraSite Broadcast Technical Services, Inc, Stainless, Inc and the Doty Moore companies are acquired by Don Doty and Pat Moore and are renamed STAINLESS, LLC and Doty Moore Tower Services LLC.

Stainless’ inventory of over 10 million pounds of tower-specific steel allows the fastest delivery in broadcast tower fabrication. The broadcast industry welcomes the return of a privately owned tower fabricator.
1,061 ft. guyed tower for KLRN TV in Holdrege, Nebraska
Stainless in a joint solicitation effort with Dielectric, is awarded 9 DTV Television and 7 FM radio conversion projects for Georgia Public Broadcasting in the nation’s single largest broadcasting project of the year in excess of $14M, including two (2) new towers. STAINLESS, LLC would design and fabricate their 281st tower over 1000 ft. for KLRN TV in Holdrege, Nebraska. This 1,061 ft. tall guyed tower has a face width of 6 ft.

Among the other projects, three towers collapse and Stainless is called upon to rebuild these essential broadcast towers. WVIA-TV in Scranton, PA 844’, Georgia Public Broadcasting (WACS-TV) Dawson, GA 1,096’ and KATV-TV in Little Rock, AR 1,269’. Broadcasters continue to call as final push for DTV readiness signals the industry is ready for the analog sunset.
1,050 ft. guyed tower for WPLG in Miami, FL
Miami station WPLG orders a 75-foot candelabra tower designed against the strongest hurricane ever records. The tower has a full-height elevator and is featured on the cover of Modern Steel Construction magazine and received an award from the Galvanizing institute. DTV transition is moved from February until June 17th. Spartanburg, SC station WSPA suffers tower failure on Hogback, Mountain and Stainless provides a replacement tower 459’ SS before the next winter. Nexstar station KSNF-TV suffers a partial collapse of their broadcast tower and Stainless is called in to supply and install the replacement tower 998’

Federal government awards Stainless heavy tower contract. Only the 5th Chief Engineer in Stainless history is selected.
